Dr. Marc Desjardins, PhD, D(ABMM), FCCM
Dr. Desjardins received his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Ottawa and completed a clinical fellowship program at The University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital from 1996 to 1998. He holds board certification with the American Board of Medical Microbiology, and he is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Desjardins was director of the Microbiology Lab at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Binghamton, New York. Since 2002, Dr. Desjardins has been a Clinical Microbiologist in the Division of Microbiology, Department of Laboratory Medicine EORLA. Currently Dr. Desjardins is Head and Regional Lead of EORLA’s regional microbiology reference laboratory and Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology of the University of Ottawa.
Academically, Dr. Desjardins’ interests include the development and implementation of new diagnostic methodologies particularly molecular and sequencing based approaches, laboratory diagnosis of tuberculosis, proteomic based typing methods using MALDI-TOF, quality management and implementation of laboratory automation in Microbiology.
