Celebrating EORLA’s 10th Anniversary and National Medical Laboratory Week – April 10-16, 2022
In April 2012, a flagship model for hospital laboratory services was launched with the inception of the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association (EORLA). This month we celebrate our 10th anniversary in providing the best patient outcomes through modern laboratory medicine, innovation and academics. EORLA operates 18 licensed, acute-care, hospital-based laboratories that service clinical programs across the Champlain Region of Eastern Ontario.
Our team of over 900 Medical Laboratory Professionals include Medical Laboratory Technologists, Technicians, Pathologist Assistants, Medical & Scientific Staff and Administration. This remarkable team delivers over 12 million diagnostic tests in our laboratories annually, using the latest technology, offering exemplary service and turnaround times to a patient population of 1.4 million in this region. Their multidisciplinary lab analysis and diagnostic skills are essential to every patient’s health care diagnosis.
An example of the benefit of the regional EORLA model is our response to the COVID 19 Global Pandemic. Within one week of the declaration of the pandemic, EORLA started COVID-19 testing for our regional hospitals. This centralized approach to virology allowed us to scale to over 5,000 COVID tests per day. Since March 2020, EORLA has performed approximately 1.5 million tests for our Member Hospitals, Assessment Centers and Community Partners.

Coupled with our 10-year anniversary is National Medical Laboratory Week 2022, celebrated during the week of April 10-16, 2022, in Canada. This week shines a spotlight on laboratory professionals and their passion to provide the highest quality service to health care and it is a well-deserved recognition week.
EORLA is Ontario’s most advanced hospital laboratory project. It includes laboratories specializing in Anatomical Pathology, Biochemistry, Hematopathology, Microbiology and Virology, Molecular
Diagnostics, Transfusion Medicine, Tissue Typing and Forensic Pathology.
